Our nine year-old son Riley gives an audio review of The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud (The Amazing Tales of Max and Liz, Book One) (aff) by Jenny L. Cote. In this episode Riley answers the following questions:
What was the book about?
What was your favorite character and why?
What was your favorite part of the book?
Did the book make the account of Noah and the flood more “real” to you?
How?
Did you learn any truths about God?
Would you recommend for your friends to read this book?
How many stars do you give this book?
Sherry goes on to share tips for reading a long chapter book to your kids. One tip Sherry gives is for you to have something for your kids to do with their hands. Sherry uses fidgets. In a blog post titled Juggling a Houseful with Learning Stations Sherry shares a picture of what fidgets look like.

Hello Osborne Family! Thank you so much for highlighting The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud in your podcast today! I enjoyed hearing from Riley about what he enjoyed about the book, and from Sherry for a mom’s perspective. It always thrills me to see families reading my books together and having great discussions for life application. I will certainly share your podcast with my reader base. And just so you know, the first two books in The Amazing Tales of Max and Liz (The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud and The Dreamer, the Schemer, and the Robe) are prequels to the continuing series, Epic Order of the Seven. The Maker began building this animal team on the ark, and has added key members through the centuries. With their mission in The Prophet, the Shepherd, and the Star, they are finally completed as a team of seven and will be known from that point on as the Order of the Seven. The Prophet, the Shepherd, and the Star spans 700 years – the animals are with Isaiah as he writes the prophecies of Messiah, then with Daniel as seeds are planted for the Wise Men to some day discover, and finally the entire Christmas story unfolds. I’ve recently finished writing the next book, The Roman, the Twelve, and the King which is the life of Christ, and it will be out Sept. 10. You can read more about the books and fun stuff going on at my website: http://www.epicorderoftheseven.com.
A couple of fun things to know about The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud: we’re in pre-production to turn the book into a 3D animated feature film once our funding is secured. We are also developing VBS curriculum around The Ark that will be beta-tested next year and hopefully available in 2014.
I give workshops on creative writing to Homeschool Groups and schools about how I write my books, and they are a ton of fun! I welcome you to check that out on my website as well, and let us know if you’d be interested in me coming to your area.
Blessings and keep up the good work with reading and homeschooling your wonderful children!

Thank you for the excellent book review Riley! My son, Zachary turns 9 tomorrow and we bought him this book for his birthday. I think from your review he will really enjoy it. Hank and Sherry, I just wanted to add that I thoroughly enjoy listening to your podcasts. I started listening a couple months ago and I think I’ve listened to them all now. Your words are such an encouragment to me. Blessings to you and your beautiful family!

Amy, Thank you so much for your encouragement. Sherry and I were just talking last and she was a little discouraged by the work she puts into this site and podcast and we seem to get little response (good or bad). Your comment was perfectly timed and we do so much appreciate it. Happy birthday to Zachary!!! Hopefully this book will be as much fun for him as it has been for Riley. We hope to hear from you again soon. May God bless your family!

I’m so glad you recommended this book! We LOVE it! It has expanded our minds to the great possibilities of what our big God can do! Charlie made huge impact on Ceilidh! The thought ofSatan shuddering at just the word of the Maker I His name has left a lasting impact
On her! This book is worth all 400+ pages! Both of my kiddo still make many references to e main characters in the story! We read it digitally, but both kids have asked for a hard copy ;)!
